I found this photo in
a portfolio of old pictures attached to an email that I had received recently.
It “jumped” out at me and I knew immediately that I had to write a poem for the peaceful
scene . . .
****************
A determined lad with a baited fishing pole
On a peaceful day at the old fishing hole
Deep in anticipation in a setting so serene
His pet, a collie, watches over the scene
A tug on the line brings on sheer delight
At least he can yell out, “I got a bite!”
He checks the hook to see if it’s all okay
Better re-worm so as to tempt the prey
Time slips away as he’s absorbed in his quest
He gets a few nibbles and tugs at the very best
Alas, the elusive fish kept swimming away
Seems, rather than eat, they wanted to play
He’d hoped to take back some fish tonight
Oh, the joy of seeing his mom’s delight
Fried fish for a change; that would be so great
Better, by far, than a PB&J sandwich on the plate

Note: In the last line of the poem . . . . . PB&J =
Peanut Butter and Jelly

swimming in a river? . . . . . . . . . .
